LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Across Lee County, the Boys & Girls Club made sure their members got treated to a Thanksgiving feast.
Last week, they hosted meals for hundreds of club members and staff. There were six dinners, all happening at once at after-school programs in Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, and Bonita Springs.
Kids and teens did crafts, writing messages about what they’re thankful for and putting them on a gratitude tree. They also enjoyed a chef-prepared meal with turkey and all the fixings! For the third consecutive year, the Brass Tap, a restaurant in Bonita Springs, sponsored the Thanksgiving dinner.
“Some of these kids won’t have a Thanksgiving meal, this is their only chance of having one. It hits home pretty hard and makes you humble and just happy that we’re able to help,” said Matthew Baum, president of Wolverine Management, which owns and operates The Brass Tap.
Boys & Girls Club of Lee County also does holiday parties in December so all club members can experience the joy of the holiday season.
The nonprofit is on a mission to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential.
